🏛 Historical Background
This sword is inspired by the legendary “Sword of Tiberius”, preserved in the British Museum, one of the most iconic surviving examples of the Roman Mainz-type gladius.
* Date & Origin:
Early 1st century AD, during the reign of Emperor Augustus and Tiberius.
Discovered near Mainz (Mogontiacum) along the Rhine River in modern-day Germany.
* Type & Role:
The Mainz gladius features a relatively short, broad blade with a long, sharp point, optimized for powerful thrusting in tight legionary formations.
It was the signature sidearm of Roman legionaries during the early Imperial period.
* Symbolism:
The original scabbard is richly decorated with gold reliefs showing Augustus depicted as Jupiter receiving symbols of victory from Tiberius, representing imperial power and military glory.
This indicates it was likely a ceremonial or officer’s sword, rather than a common soldier’s weapon.
